Dear Impact for Breakfast DC Members and Friends,
We warmly invite you to join us for our next Impact for Breakfast event, co-hosted by Alix Peterson Zwane and Lisa Willems and our friends at GW including John Forrer and the team at the Institute for Corporate Responsibility, exploring a timely and provocative topic:
"What’s the Role for Outcome Payments in the Future of Development Assistance?"
Date & Time: Wednesday, April 30, 8:00 – 10:00 AM
Location: George Washington University, Washington, DC
RSVP: Please confirm your attendance via the Impact for Breakfast website
Note: Light breakfast and coffee will be provided.
In an era of heightened scrutiny and debate about the effectiveness and accountability of foreign aid, the practice of linking payments explicitly to development outcomes is gaining traction. With significant shifts underway in U.S. international assistance policy, and bipartisan calls for greater efficiency, transparency, and impact, it’s critical to understand whether and how outcome payments could reshape the landscape of development aid.
We are delighted to bring together an exceptional panel to unpack the potential—and the pitfalls—of outcome-based funding approaches:
Colin Christensen, Global Policy Director at One Acre Fund, will offer insights from extensive experience in agricultural development, highlighting how outcome payments could transform incentives and results for smallholder farmers in developing economies.
Dan Honig, Associate Professor at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, will provide insights informed by his research on organizational behavior, bureaucratic incentives, and performance measurement in international aid agencies.
Siddh Haria, Senior Policy Lead at the Market Shaping Accelerator at University of Chicago/Center for Global Deveopment, brings a funding designer lens to the discussion, exploring innovative market-based mechanisms and the real-world practicalities of implementing outcome-based funding instruments, including Advance Market Commitments, at scale.
Moderated by Alix Zwane, this event is a unique opportunity to explore outcome-based payments through multiple lenses—academia, non-profit implementation, and market-shaping approaches.
This event will particularly benefit development practitioners, government officials, funders, academics, impact investors, and policy advocates who are looking for nuanced discussions and practical strategies amid the current evolving aid environment in the U.S.
We look forward to seeing you there and engaging in this timely conversation. Please RSVP early as space is limited.
Warm regards,
Alix & Lisa
