The proposition that impact and financial performance can reinforce one another is hardly new. What remains much less developed is the practical question: how do investors and portfolio companies deliberately turn impact into a source of business and enterprise value?
A new publication from Value for Good and Trill Impact seeks to move this conversation from principle to implementation. Drawing on experience across Trill Impact’s portfolio, it introduces a structured approach to impact-driven value creation across the investment lifecycle—from identifying potential value-creation levers and designing initiatives through implementation, measurement and ultimately quantification of financial outcomes.
This Impact for Breakfast session will use the framework and real-world cases as the starting point for a broader practitioner conversation. We will examine where impact initiatives have contributed to tangible business outcomes; how investors can distinguish genuine value creation from correlation or assumption; and what it takes to embed impact into investment and portfolio-management processes rather than treating it as a parallel ESG or reporting exercise.
Importantly, the conversation will also pressure-test the approach: Which impact levers genuinely create financial value? Under what conditions? How confidently can that value be measured and attributed? And what does this mean for investment teams and portfolio-company management in practice?
The aim is not simply to make the case that impact can create value, but to understand when, how and why it does.
Core Themes & Questions
Who Should Attend: Impact and commercial investors, private-equity and growth investors, family offices, investment and operating partners, impact and sustainability professionals, and portfolio-company executives interested in understanding how impact can become an active component of value creation rather than a parallel measurement or reporting exercise.
Format & Engagement
The session will begin with a short introduction to the framework and selected portfolio examples from Value for Good and Trill Impact, followed by moderated discussion and open Q&A.
In keeping with the IFB format, the emphasis will be on practitioner exchange rather than presentation: testing the methodology against investor and company experience, examining where the approach works—and where it may not—and surfacing lessons that participants can apply within their own portfolios and organisations.
