In today’s complex and rapidly evolving media landscape, independent journalism faces unprecedented challenges. A crucial element in supporting and sustaining independent media is the strategic use of concessional capital — funding provided on terms more favorable than market rates, typically from philanthropic sources and impact investors. This "patient capital" helps reduce risks and supports media outlets in building sustainable business models without sacrificing editorial integrity, especially in difficult markets and digital transitions.
We are honored to host Patrice Schneider, a dedicated advocate for press freedom and media viability who has spent the last twenty-two years with the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF). MDIF combines human rights principles with investment strategies to empower independent media worldwide, fostering free and informed societies.
Join us at Impact Hub Ticino for a conversation with Patrice about his journey from journalism to impact investing, working at the intersection of press freedom and sustainable media. Together, we’ll explore topics such as:
The Future of News Media in Troubled Times for Democracies
Funding Public Interest Information as a Common Good
Blended Capital as a Path to Media Viability
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking discussion on the future of independent media and the power of impact investing to uphold democratic values. We look forward to seeing you there!
