Beyond the trite narrative of an Africa riddled with war, poverty and disease the New York Times recently observed that an Africa of boundless opportunity is emerging. By 2050, 1 in 4 people on the planet will be African, a seismic change that’s already starting to register. Businesses are chasing Africa’s tens of millions of new consumers emerging every year, representing untapped markets for cosmetics and organic foods. Hilton plans to open 65 new hotels on the continent within five years. Credit Suisse estimates that its population of millionaires, the fastest growing on earth, is expected to double to 768,000 by 2027.
In this moment of tremendous opportunity for African innovators, a Harvard Business School Case Study highlights that Harambeans has emerged as the premier platform of African innovators, with 3 out of the 5 unicorns in Africa in 2021 being founded by Harambeans.
In this context, we are very honored to host Okendo Lewis-Gayle as the main course of our Impact for Breakfast Series to learn more about his journey and opportunities for impact across Africa, and how Harambeans, throguh a trust-based and value-based approach, is de-risking investing in Africa.
